  • Sonoco Downgraded to "Sell" at Goldman Sachs (SON)

Goldman Sachs reported on Friday that it has cut its rating on Sonoco Products Company (SON) . The firm has downgraded SON from "Neutral" to "Sell," and has maintained its current $36 price target. This price target suggests a 9% upside from the stock's current price of $39.58. An analyst from the firm noted: "We downgrade SON to Sell (relative to our coverage) from Neutral on a lower projected EPS CAGR through 2015 (7% vs. 15% for group) and relative valuation – SON shares are trading at 15.4X 2014E P/E, ahead of the Packaging group average at 14.6X, and its 5-year historical average of 13.2X. • Sonoco Upgraded to "Buy" at Bank of America (SON)

Bank of America announced on Monday that it has raised its rating on packaging products maker Sonoco Products Company (SON) . The firm has upgraded Sonoco from a "Neutral" to a "Buy," and has lifted the company's price target from $38 to $42. This new price target suggests a 9% increase from the stock's current price of $38.16. A Bank of America analyst noted, “simply put, we think investors and the street are not paying sufficient attention to the turn occurring in several SON businesses, the impact created by relatively one-off factors that should reverse and assist earnings momentum in '13-'14 and, perhaps most importantly, a change in approach being brought by new CEO Jack Sanders to productivity, returns, and use of buyback. We think the odds are relatively high that investors will wind up being surprised by SON earnings power in the next 12 months.” Sonoco Products shares were up 1.01, or 2.72%, during Monday morning trading. The stock is up 28% YTD. The Bottom Line Shares of Sonoco Products Company (SON) have a 3.24% yield based on Monday morning's price of $38.24.
