The holidays are great for numerous reasons. From the food and the presents to cheesy Saturday morning-styled holiday specials, this time of year is certainly magical. And one of the great things about the Christmas season are the various carols and songs that ring in your ears while trying to get the last Go-Go Smart Wheels toy at Target (TGT ). One of my favorites happens to be “The 12 Days of Christmas.”

For the uninitiated, the carol is basically about what your sweetheart would get you for the 12 days following Christmas. The song is sung at a fast pace and recounts all 12 gifts with each verse. Aside from being a famous carol, the song can serve as an investment lesson.

And the latest “version” of the song is highlighting a potential problem for many unprepared investors.
