It operates in three segments: Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), Supply Chain Solutions (SCS), and Dedicated Contract Carriage (DCC). As of December 31, 2007, the company had a fleet of approximately 126,400 commercial trucks, tractors, and trailers leased or rented. Its customers include small businesses and enterprises operating in beverage, newspaper, grocery, lumber and wood products, home furnishings, and metal industries. The company was founded in 1933 and is based in Miami, Florida.

Ryder Systems Q2 Profit Increases; Adjusted EPS Beats Estimates, But Revenues Miss (R)Jul 23, 2013Transportation and supply chain management solutions company Ryder System, Inc. (R) reported early on Tuesday that its earnings increased 33% in the second quarter, with adjusted earnings topping Wall Street estimates. However, the company narrowed its fiscal 2013 earnings outlook. The Miami, Florida-based company said it earned $62.2 million, or $1.19 per share, in the second quarter, up from $46.7 million, or 91 cents per share, earned during the same quarter last year. Excluding various costs, adjusted earnings per share from continuing operations rose to $1.25 in the most recent quarter from $1.09 last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting the company to post earnings of $1.23 per share in the quarter. The company noted that the increase in earnings from continuing operations was due to the improved performance of the company's Fleet Management Solutions segment and Supply Chain Solutions segment. Ryder's total quarterly revenue was $1.60 billion, up from $1.56 billion last year. Analysts were expecting the company to see revenues of $1.61 billion. Looking ahead to the third quarter results, the company sees earnings coming in between $1.41 and $1.46 per share. Analysts expect the company to earn $1.46 per share. For fiscal 2013, the company narrowed its earnings guidance to $4.75-$4.85 per share, from the previous guidance of $4.70-$4.85 per share. Analysts expect the company to earn $4.85 per share in 2013. Ryder shares were down $1.50, or 2.38%, during morning trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 22.89% year-to-date. Ryder Q4 Profit Tops Wall Street Estimates (R)Jan 31, 2013On Thursday transportation and supply chain company Ryder System, Inc. (R) reported a +12% rise in fourth quarter profit as revenue rose helped by its fleet-management segment. The Miami, Florida-based company saw its fourth quarter net income grow to $53.8 million, or $1.05 per share, from $48.1 million, or 93 cents per share, a year earlier. Earnings from continuing operations rose from 92 cents per share to $1.07 per share. In the fourth quarter Ryder had to take a charge of 10 cents per share for vehicle-related losses due to Superstorm Sandy; insurance recoveries remain uncertain. Adjusted earnings were $1.17 per share, up from 97 cents per share in the year prior. Analysts were expecting an adjusted EPS of $1.10, according to Thomson Reuters. Total revenue rose to $1.58 billion from $1.54 billion. Analysts predicted a revenue of $1.57 billion. For the full year 2013, the company's outlook sees adjusted EPS coming in between $4.70 to $4.85. Analysts see EPS reaching $4.55. Ryder shares were up $2.44, or +4.49%, during morning trading on Thursday. The stock is up 82 cents per share over the trailing twelve months. Goldman Sachs Upgrades Ryder Systems (R)Jan 10, 2013Goldman Sachs reported that they have upgraded transportation and supply chain management company, Ryder System, Inc.(R) on Thursday. The firm has increased their rating of the company from "Neutral" to "Buy," and has raised their price target from $47 to $63. This price target suggests a 17% increase from the stock's current price of $52.02. Analysts see Ryder as the company with the most leverage in the industry, and believe that it is likely to rebound. An analyst from the firm commented, "Ryder stands to benefit from increased rental and leasing activity as domestic economic growth picks up, and as increasingly more customers choose to outsource transportation planning and decision-making to 3rd party specialists, such as R." Ryder System shares were mostly flat during premarket trading Thursday. The stock has declined -4.8% in the past year. Ryder System Slashes Forecast on Lower Rental Services Revenue; Shares Tumble (R)Jun 22, 2012Logistics company Ryder System, Inc. (R) late Thursday lowered its second quarter earnings outlook, citing lower rental revenue, sending its shares plunging in premarket trading. The Miami-based company said it now expects second quarter earnings to range from 90 to 95 cents per share, down significantly from its prior outlook of $1.07 to $1.12. On average, Wall Street analysts expected $1.10 per share for the period. A Ryder spokesperson commented, "Although commercial rental revenue has improved both year-over-year and seasonally, May results reflected lower rental growth than previously discussed." Ryder System shares were down $3.80, or -9.3%, in premarket trading Friday.
