Sears Holdings Q3 Loss Narrows on Lower Costs (SHLD)Nov 19, 2009Retail giant Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) on Thursday posted a smaller-than-expected third quarter loss, helped by lower costs amid smaller revenue. The Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based company reported a third quarter net loss of $127 million, or $1.09 per share, compared with a bigger loss of $146 million, or $1.16 per share, in the same period last year. Excluding one-time items, Sears' adjusted loss was 81 cents per share. Revenue fell 4% from last year, to $10.19 billion. On average, Wall Street analysts expected a larger loss of $1.09 per share, on lower revenue of $9.92 billion. The company said that total costs and expenses fell to 10.3 billion in the latest quarter, compared with $10.86 billion last year. Sears Holdings shares rose $2.98, or +3.9%, in premarket trading Thursday. The Bottom Line Shares of SHLD are just off 52-week highs of $80 a share.
