  • Goldman Sachs Reiterates "Conviction Buy" Rating on Cummins (CMI)

On Thursday, analysts at Goldman Sachs reiterated their bullish rating on Cummins Inc. (CMI) , as they believe new pollution regulations in China will help drive the next leg of the diesel engines maker's production cycle. The analysts rate CMI as "Conviction Buy" and see shares reaching $140. This price target suggests a 21% upside to the stock's Thursday closing price of $115.28. "Amid sharply higher June truck sales, Chinanews.com reports that over 30 cities will implement National IV truck engine standards on July 1st, in sharp contrast to some investor concerns about an extended delay in the government's implementation of the requirements," said Goldman Sachs analyst Jerry Revich. "The new engine regulations are similar to Euro IV standards and will require selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems to meet the requirements. We estimate the system costs to be $1,200 - $1,500 per engine compared to $3,500+ in developed markets." "We estimate $250 mn of new product sales for Cummins in 2014 based on sales to current JV partners (220,000 units), and this could prove conservative if CMI is awarded a supply agreement from Weichai, a major CMI turbocharger customer," Revich added. Cummins Inc. shares were up 47 cents, or 0.41%, during pre-market trading on Friday. The stock is up 6.4% year-to-date. The Bottom Line Shares of Cummins Inc (CMI) have a dividend yield of 2.17% based on last night's closing price of $115.28 and the company's annualized dividend payout of $2.50 per share. Cummins Inc.
