  • Goldman Sachs Maintains Buy Rating On Eagle Materials, Lowers Price Target (EXP)

Goldman Sachs announced today that it maintained its Conviction Buy Rating on the Dallas-based cement company Eagle Materials (EXP) . The firm did, however, lower its price target on the stock from $97.00 to $94.00 Goldman Sachs Analyst Jerry Revich noted the primary reason for Eagle Material's lower price target is the company's delay at its frac sand mine in Illinois. According to Streetinsider.com, Revich commented "We maintain our CL Buy on the stock despite the delay as we remain bullish on the cement pricing cycle and believe EXP's unique frac sand logistics business provides disproportionate risk-adjusted upside, while on our estimates the stock discounts minimal earnings contribution from the frac sand business." Eagle Materials shares traded 0.53% lower during Monday's session. Year-to-date, the stock is up 8.44%. The Bottom Line Shares of Eagle Materials (EXP) currently yield 0.60% based on Monday's closing price of $67.21 and its annual payout of $0.40. Eagle Materials (EXP)  is not recommended at this time, holding a Dividend.com DARS™ Rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars. • Eagle Materials Jumps on Investment from Ash Grove Cement (EXP)

Eagle Materials (EXP) had a great day yesterday, jumping over 11% on news that Ash Grove Cement Co. bought about 2.2 million shares of Eagle Materials' outstanding stock. Ash Grove is one of the largest cement manufacturers in North America. Eagle Materials is a provider of gypsum wallpaper and cement, recycled paperboard, and aggregates. The stock has been cut nearly in half from highs hit last July. The Bottom Line We think this is a good catalyst for the shares possibly over the short-term, but the key news to monitor with this company is the housing numbers we get hit with on a weekly basis. The supply of homes is still moving up, so that will not help. We would still avoid this stock and the entire sector for now. The company does have a 2.95% dividend yield, based on last night's closing stock price of $27.13. We prefer to look at shares of Home Depot (HD) or Lowes (LOW) as far as playing a rebound in housing. Eagle Materials (EXP) is not a recommended dividend stock at this time, holding a Dividend.com rating of 3.2 out of 5 stars.
