  • American Capital Agency Corp. Reports Q3 Loss; Shares Fall (AGNC)

    Shares of real estate investment trust (REIT) American Capital Agency Corp. (AGNC) sunk on Tuesday morning following the release of the company's Q3 results. AGNC's Earnings in Brief -AGNC reported a Q3 net loss of $704 million or $1.80 per share, compared to net income of $83 million, or 25 cents per share, a year ago. -Comprehensive income for the quarter was $179 million, or 45 cents per share, down from $1.32 billion, or $3.98 per share last year. -Net-interest income for the quarter rose 8% to $413 million from $381 million. CEO Commentary Gary Kain, President and Chief Investment Officer, commented: "During the third quarter, we continued to see substantial volatility in both interest rates and mortgage spreads. Consistent with what we said during our last earnings call in late July, we remained disciplined in our approach to risk management and prioritized book value preservation over short term earnings. To this point, we continued to migrate the portfolio into shorter maturity securities, lowered leverage somewhat, and maintained relatively high hedge ratios." AGNC's Dividend AGNC cut its dividend from $1.25 per share to 80 cents per share in September, and will likely lower its dividend again in the near future. The drop in Tuesday's share price has brought AGNC's yield up to 14.43%. Stock Performance American Capital Agency shares were down $1.80, or 7.53%, during Tuesday morning trading. The stock is down 22.5% YTD.

  • American Capital Agency Declares Dividend; 13.5% Yield (AGNC)

    On Friday, real estate investment trust (REIT) American Capital Agency Corp. (AGNC) declared its next quarterly dividend. AGNC will pay a dividend of 80 cents per share on October 28 to shareholders of record on September 30. The stock will go ex-dividend on September 26. This dividend is down from the company's prior dividend payment of $1.05 per share. The company also announced that it bought back 11.9 million shares, or 3% of its common stock, during the third quarter.
