  • Goldman Sachs Upgrades Lazard Ltd. to "Conviction Buy" (LAZ)

Financial advisory and asset management firm Lazard Ltd (LAZ) was upgraded to "Conviction Buy" by analsyts at Goldman Sachs on Monday due to a number of positive factors. The analysts upgraded LAZ from "Neutral" to "Conviction Buy" and see shares reaching $45, up from the previous target of $37. This new price target suggests a 25% upside to the stock's Friday closing price of $36.03. "We believe the Street underestimates LAZ’s margin improvement opportunity in 2014 given strengthening revenue backdrop in both the Advisory and Asset Mgmt. businesses, and cost cut realization," Goldman Sachs analyst Alexander Blostein said. "With modest revenue growth assumptions, we believe LAZ should achieve its 25% operating margin target, leaving us about 10% above consensus for the next two years. Furthermore, in our view, the firm’s significant cash flow generation (13% FCF yield) creates opportunities for corporate debt reduction starting in 2015, as well as dividend growth over time. Longer-term, we believe LAZ provides the most upside potential to an improving global M&A cycle mainly due to its European presence – currently the largest drag on M&A volumes." Goldman Sachs also released estimates for LAZ's 2013, 2014, and 2015 EPS at $1.75, $2.45, and $3.10, respectively. The consensus view among other Wall Street analysts is that LAZ will see EPS of $1.72, $2.32, and $2.78 in 2013, 2014, and 2015, respectively. Lazard shares were inactive during pre-market trading on Monday. The stock is up 20.74% year-to-date.
