  • Archer Daniels Midland Company Beats Analyst Earnings Views; Misses on Revenue (ADM)

    Before the opening bell on Tuesday morning, Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) reported its fourth quarter earnings, posting a 58% increase in Q4 EPS compared the same period last year while revenues came in lower. ADM's Earnings in Brief
    • Archer reported fourth quarter revenues of $24.143 billion, which were down from last year's Q4 revenues of $24.921 billion. Analysts were expecting the company to report revenues of $25.07 billion.
    • Non-adjusted net earnings attributable to ADM for the quarter came in at $374 million, or 56 cents per share, down from last year's Q4 figure of $510 million, or 77 cents per share.
    • On an adjusted basis, ADM's Q4 EPS came in at 95 cents, a 58% improvements from last year's Q4 EPS of 60 cents, and 11 cents better than analysts' EPS estimates of 84 cents.
    CEO Commentary ADM chairman and CEO Patricia Woertz had the following to say about the company's earnings: “The team delivered a strong finish to the year. Lower corn costs and improved ethanol margins helped support a significant improvement in our Corn business. Our great Oilseeds performance was driven by our ability to meet robust global demand for meal and by improved biodiesel results in North America and Europe. However, our Ag Services business was impacted by the slow farmer-selling of corn and challenges in international merchandising ... Looking ahead, we continue to see strong global demand for our products and large crop supplies. We expect continued good utilization of our North American network until South America’s large harvest reaches global markets.” ADM's Dividend Archer Daniels Midland did not announce any change to its dividend payout in its earnings report, but the company did make mention of its last dividend raise that was announced in December for its March payout. The company raised its quarterly dividend from 19 cents to 24 cents. The dividend is payable on March 13 and the stock goes ex-dividend on February 18. Stock Performance ADM stock was inactive in pre-market trading. So far this year the company's stock is down 9.49%.

    Goldman Sachs announced on Wednesday that it has resumed coverage on agricultural company Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) . The firm has resumed coverage on ADM with a "Buy" rating and $42 price target. This price target suggests a 16% upside from the stock's current price of $35.40. Analyst Adam Samuelson commented: "Following a challenging 2H12 and 2013 operating environment, we expect a recovery in returns in 2014+ as large US corn and soybean crops drive a moderation in commodity prices, easing working capital requirements and improving throughput in the company’s large US asset base."
