The company reported that its board has approved an increase to its quarterly dividend from $0.1875 to $0.225 per share, or 90 cents annualized.   • Westlake Chemical Q2 Profit Rises 26%; EPS Tops Estimates, But Revenues Miss (WLK)

    Before the opening bell on Tuesday, chemical products manufacturer Westlake Chemical Corporation (WLK) reported a 26% year-over-year increase in second quarter profits on a 3% growth in sales. Though earnings were able to beat estimates, the company's quarterly revenues came up short of expectations. The Houston, Texas-based company posted a second quarter net income of $145.8 million, or $2.17 per share, up from $115.5 million, or $1.72 per share, earned in the same period in 2012. According to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, the company was expected to earn $1.94 per share in the quarter. The company's revenues advanced to $939.0 million in the quarter, up from $914.0 million last year. Analysts were expecting the company to see $947.99 million in revenues in the quarter. Albert Chao, CEO of Westlake Chemical, said, "We are pleased to report record quarterly earnings largely driven by lower cost natural-gas based ethylene production resulting from North American shale gas and oil production. In addition, our Vinyls segment continues to improve as the U.S. economy slowly recovers." Westlake Chemical shares were up 33 cents, or 0.33%, during morning trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 25.8% year-to-date.
