Westlake Chemical Raises Dividend 20% (WLK)Aug 26, 2013On Monday, chemical company Westlake Chemical Corporation (WLK) announced that it has increased its quarterly dividend by 20%. The company reported that its board has approved an increase to its quarterly dividend from $0.1875 to $0.225 per share, or 90 cents annualized. The dividend will be paid on September 25 to shareholders of record on September 10. The payout has an ex-dividend date of September 6. Westlake Chemical shares were mostly flat during premarket trading Monday. The stock is up 30% YTD. Westlake Chemical Q2 Profit Rises 26%; EPS Tops Estimates, But Revenues Miss (WLK)Jul 30, 2013Before the opening bell on Tuesday, chemical products manufacturer Westlake Chemical Corporation (WLK) reported a 26% year-over-year increase in second quarter profits on a 3% growth in sales. Though earnings were able to beat estimates, the company's quarterly revenues came up short of expectations. The Houston, Texas-based company posted a second quarter net income of $145.8 million, or $2.17 per share, up from $115.5 million, or $1.72 per share, earned in the same period in 2012. According to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, the company was expected to earn $1.94 per share in the quarter. The company's revenues advanced to $939.0 million in the quarter, up from $914.0 million last year. Analysts were expecting the company to see $947.99 million in revenues in the quarter. Albert Chao, CEO of Westlake Chemical, said, "We are pleased to report record quarterly earnings largely driven by lower cost natural-gas based ethylene production resulting from North American shale gas and oil production. In addition, our Vinyls segment continues to improve as the U.S. economy slowly recovers." Westlake Chemical shares were up 33 cents, or 0.33%, during morning trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 25.8% year-to-date. Goldman Sachs Upgrades Westlake Chemical to "Buy" (WLK)Jan 17, 2012Chemicals, vinyls, and polymers maker Westlake Chemical Corporation (WLK) on Tuesday caught a big upgrade from analysts at Goldman Sachs. The firm said it boosted its rating on WLK to "Buy" with a $67 price target, suggesting a 24% upside to the stock's Friday closing price of $53.87. Goldman noted the company stands to benefit from declining ethane prices. As of late, ethane prices have mimicked those of natural gas, which are near a 28-month low.
