Earnings: Cigna, Cummins, Intercontinental Exchange, More (CI, CMI, ICE, More)

Before the opening bell on Thursday, a number of big name, dividend paying companies announced their quarterly earnings. Below, we look at these earnings reports and break down the important points for investors.

Cigna Beats Q4 Estimates

Cigna (CI ) reported fourth quarter earnings of $467 million, or $1.77 per share, up from $361 million, or $1.29 per share, last year. Excluding special items, earnings were $446 million, or $1.69 per share – above analysts’ estimate of $1.67 per share.

Revenue came in at $8.93 billion, up from $8.15 billion last year. Analysts expected to see revenue of $8.89 billion.

Becton, Dickinson and Co Reports Lower Q1 Profits

Becton, Dickinson and Co (BDX ) reported Q1 net income of $236 million, or $1.20 per share, down from $271 million, or $1.37 per share, a year ago. Excluding special items, EPS was $1.53, higher than last year’s $1.43. Analysts expected to see EPS of $1.43.

Revenue came in at $2.05 billion, up 1.8% from the year prior. Analysts expected to see revenue of $2.01 billion.

Cummins Posts Weak Outlook

Cummins Inc. (CMI) reported fourth quarter earnings of $444 million, or $2.44 per share, up from $432 million, or $2.32 per share, last year. Excluding special items, EPS was $2.56 – above analysts’ view of $2.51.

Revenue rose 11% to $5.09 billion from $4.59 billion last year. Analysts expected to see revenue of $5.02 billion.

Looking forward, the company expects to see revenue growth between 2% and 4%. Analysts expect to see revenue growth of 9.5%.

Intercontinental Exchange Turns Q4 Profit

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE ) reported fourth quarter earnings of $288 million, or $2.54 per share. Last year, the company posted a net loss of $176 million, or $1.83 per share. Excluding special items, EPS was $2.59 – above analysts’ view of $2.54.

Revenue climbed to $1.132 billion from $654 million a year ago. Analysts expected to see revenue of $783.62 million.
