Real estate investment trusts (REITs) haven’t exactly lived up to their potential over the last few years. After what seems like decades of outperformance, the sector has continued to slump amid interest rate woes, high property prices, and other structural challenges. For many investors, REIT Rockstars have turned to duds, and some analysts have even begun questioning whether or not we need them at all in our portfolios.
But rather than question REIT’s validity, they should be buying.
