From Dragon to Elephant: India's Rise in Emerging Markets

When it comes to investing in emerging markets, China is seen as the 800-pound gorilla—excuse me, dragon—in the room. The majority of emerging market indexes count it as the main constituent. It’s easy to see why. The nation’s past trends represented the hallmark of the developing market thesis. However, these days, China has fallen flat. Asia’s dragon economy has continued to stall and turn increasingly in on itself.

Which begs the question: Who is ready to take up the emerging markets’ mantle? The answer could be India.

Featuring many of the same tailwinds as China minus much of the baggage, India has quickly taken the emerging market crown. For investors looking for long-term growth and opportunities, India could be a great bet.
