The Market Glance for July 9: Rising Rates and Lax Regulation Likely Propped Up Bank Earnings in Q2

While most investors will be keen to keep an eye on bank stocks later in the week, there will be a number of major economic data coming out this week that can have a major impact on the Fed’s monetary policy in the remaining months of the year.

It’s the second week of Q2 earnings season and there will be a number of earnings reports from major banks operating in the country. Given the easing regulatory environment and rising interest rates, most CEOs should wrap up their respective earnings call with a smile as analysts are expecting the sector to post substantial earnings growth in Q2 compared to last year.

In summary, expect volatility of financial stocks to soar on Friday, but it can also get elevated early in the week if some key economic indicators like the JOLTS job openings figure or the inflation rate misses estimates.

Check out last week’s Market Glance here in which investors focused on the thriving market despite looming trade wars.
