Even with the recent downturn, there’s still one constant: stocks remain very expensive.
After one of the longest bull markets in history, valuations for many equities are well-above historic norms. This poses an interesting conundrum for investors. Indexes are at the mercy of these expensive valuations and could be subjected to some big drawdowns as volatility increases. But there’s still plenty of potential for gains as the economy is going strong.
What’s an investor to do?
The answer? Start picking individual stocks again. According to several analysts and investment banks, the high valuations of today’s equities implies that this could be a real “stock picker’s” market. For investors, now could be the best time to load up on shares of quality companies for the long haul.
