Are Online Sales Really Killing Retail?

The internet is truly revolutionizing how we conduct our lives. It’s impacting a variety of sectors and industries. Perhaps none is feeling the effects of the internet worse than the retail sector. Classic brick-and-mortar retailers have been shaken, to say the least.

As more shoppers have chosen to go online rather than in store, the retail sector has continued to see slowing sales and profits. This past Christmas and holiday season could only be seen as a massacre for several retailers.

So it’s no secret that online and e-commerce are starting to cannibalize brick-and-mortar stores. The real question is, to what extent?

For investors, the answer has some interesting portfolio complications and could lead to opportunities as well.
