It’s no secret that real estate investment trusts (REITs) have been on fire in recent years. Designed as “pass-through” entities, REITs are required to hand out the vast bulk of their cash flows back to investors. As a result, REITs often yield quite more than regular stocks. And in our low interest rate world, that fact has many investors clamoring for the security type.
The problem is many of us are just clamoring for a small subset of REITs.
The truth is, the vast bulk of commercial real estate and REIT opportunities exist outside the United States and its borders. For dividend seekers, this revelation should be seen as an opportunity. The wide world of real estate is waiting.
