Company Profile

Company Overview

American Electric Power (AEP) is a major electric utility company in the U.S. The company is one of the largest generators of electricity, owning nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity. The company was founded in 1906, and is based in Columbus, OH. As a utility, it is a highly regulated company, and changes in government policy can affect AEP greatly. As well, there is little growth opportunity as the utility industry is generally stable, and as a result, utility companies generally have higher dividend yields. AEP has been paying dividends since 1910, and has increased them consecutively annually since 2010. Historically AEP has had generally stable dividends. AEP pays its dividends quarterly.
