If there has been one constant theme in recent quarters, it has to be the so-called “death of retail.”
And there was good reason to call for such doom and gloom. Sales at many traditional retailers – both larger and small – have been hit by rising e-commerce sales. That’s caused a host of store closings, layoffs and even a few bankruptcies. All seemed lost for the once strong pillar of the economy and market.
But a funny thing happened.
Traditional retail isn’t actually dying. In fact, it’s thriving. That’s because many retail stocks have finally gotten their acts together and now understand how to better compete in the new digital age. We’ve already seen a few quarters of growth for several of the major retail stocks. And more could be on the way.
