Why End-Of-Year Organizing Is Worth the Effort

Some people are natural neat freaks, others not so much. I’m in the latter category, but on the Felix Unger to Oscar Madison spectrum, I’d say I’m kind of a lazy Felix who lets things slide and then straightens them out (my Container Store-loving wife may disagree).

That preamble is just to let you know that this call to get your financial/investment records in order is not coming from a drill sergeant but rather from a flesh-and-blood human, who is trying to help you overcome any natural inclination to procrastinate so that you and your family can ultimately save time and money – and prevent huge mistakes.

As 2016 winds down, this is a good time to tackle these simple administrative tasks because you will be able to start 2017 in a better position and perhaps cut your 2016 tax bill, or at least make filling out the forms easier. So let’s go through the short list.
