Walt Disney Studios and IMAX to Co-Produce, Distribute IMAX 3D Documentary (DIS)

IMAX Corp and Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company (DIS), have agreed to produce and distribute an upcoming film by filmmaker Toni Myers, it was announced on Wednesday.

Toni Myers is an IMAX film making veteran, directing many mind-blowing documentaries for IMAX audiences for decades. This latest venture, the first co-production by IMAX and Walt Disney Studios, is set to examine mankind’s future on and off Earth, as the well as the understanding of the solar system and beyond. It is being made in cooperation with NASA.

The film, which is still untitled, will be in 3D and will utilize IMAX’s high resolution cameras to capture stunning pictures of Earth from space. The film is expected to be released in 2015.

Disney shares were up 62 cents, or +1.09%, during Wednesday morning trading. The stock is up +31.96% over the past year.
