NVIDIA Announces It Will License Out Graphics Technology (NVDA)
Graphic processing unit (GPU) producer NVIDIA (NVDA) announced today that it will be changing its business model, and will begin licensing its graphics cores and visual patents to other companies.
The company’s chief executive, Jen-Hsun Huang made this announcement today at the Reuters Global Technology summit, and said that the move would allow the company to more fully embrace the growing mobile and tablet market. NVIDIA’s core business was creating GPUs for PCs, but as PC sales decline, NVIDIA is adapting to the more mobile- and tablet-based tech space.
NVIDIA’s share price was down slightly today, and the company is around 5% off its 52-week high.
