Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and More Update on WiFi Coverage (CVC, CMCSA,TWC)

Last year, high speed internet providers Cablevision (CVC), Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC), Cox Communications, and Bright House Networks launched a partnership that allows customers of one of the companies to access a combined WiFi network in major cities across the US. Since launching in May of 2012, the service, known as CableWiFi, has tripled in size.

The CableWiFi service is the largest WiFi network in the country. High-speed internet customers of one of the companies mentioned above can utilize the WiFi network in a number of major cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and more.

The combined WiFi network has more than 150,000 hotspots in the country. The hotspots are located indoors and outdoors; customers can locate the nearest hotspot by visiting the CableWiFi homepage or downloading the service’s app on a mobile device.

The companies note that this partnership is an example of the cable industry working together to innovate and provide customers with the best possible service.

Cablevision, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable shares were inactive during pre-market trading on Monday.
