AT&T Considering Vodafone Assets Following Verizon Deal (T, VZ, VOD)
Vodafone (VOD) confirmed on Thursday that it has been in talks with Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) regarding the possible sale of Vodafone’s stake in Verizon. Reports issued on Friday suggest that AT&T Inc. (T) may be looking into purchasing what is left of Vodafone’s assets once the deal is completed.
AT&T has been working on expanding its wireless business in Europe, and may now be considering a stake in Vodafone. According to someone familiar with the matter, AT&T is only interested in VOD’s assets related to its wireless business.
Vodafone made an agreement in June to acquire Germany-based wireless provider Kabel Deutschland. The company has also expanded into several regions including South Africa and Australia.
AT&T shares were up 15 cents, or 0.45%, during pre-market trading Friday. The stock has been mostly flat YTD.
