Enersis SA- (ENI)-engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Brazil. It also engages in the generation and distribution of electricity in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. As of December 31, 2006, it had approximately 11.5 million customers. The company was founded in 1889. It was formerly known as Compania Chilena Metropolitana de Distribucion Electrica S.A. and changed its name to Enersis S.A. in 1988. The company is headquartered in Santiago, Chile. Enersis S.A. operates as a subsidiary of Endesa, S.A.
