    Jefferies announced on Wednesday that it has raised its rating on Xcel Energy Inc (XEL) . The firm has upgraded XEL from "Hold" to "Buy," and has raised the company's price target from $31 to $32.50. This new price target suggests a 15% upside from the stock's current price of $27.72. Analyst Paul B. Fremont commented: "The stock is currently trading at an 8% P/E discount to our 2015E group average multiple." "Despite a difficult political environment in Minnesota the company was able to achieve a reasonable outcome in its NSP-Minnesota rate case," the analyst added.   • Xcel Energy Posts Higher Earnings; Beats Estimates (XEL)

    Xcel Energy (XEL) released its second quarter earnings on Thursday morning, posting an increase in its quarterly earnings from last year's same period, and beating analysts' EPS and revenue views. The Minneapolis-based electrical company posted earnings for the quarter of $197 million, or 40 cents per share, which were up from last year's posting of $183 million, or 38 cents per share. Analysts were looking for EPS of 39 cents. Xcel posted revenues for the quarter at $2.58 billion, which was up from last year's second quarter revenues of $2.27 billion. This figure also beat analysts' revenue estimates of $2.42 billion. The company reaffirmed its guidance for full year 2013 with an EPS of $1.85 to $1.95 per share. Analysts are expecting EPS of $1.91. Shares of Xcel Energy were up 20 cents, or 0.67%, in Thursday morning trading. The company is up more than 9% YTD.
