  • PPL Corporation Earnings Rise 49%; Lifts Outlook (PPL)

    Energy and utility company PPL Corporation (PPL) posted higher second quarter results on Thursday, which matched estimates. The company also reported that it has lifted its outlook for 2013. The Allentown, PA-based company reported second quarter net income of $405 million, or 63 cents per share, up 49% from $271 million, or 46 cents per share, a year ago. Excluding special items, earnings were $311 million, or 49 cents per share. On average, analysts expected to see earnings of 46 cents per share. Total revenue for the quarter was $3.45 billion, from $2.55 billion last year. Analysts expected to see revenue of $2.63 billion. Looking forward, the company has raised its FY2013 outlook from a range of $2.15 to $2.40 per share to $2.25 to $2.40 per share. Analysts are expecting earnings of $2.31 per share. PPL Corporation shares were mostly flat during Thursday morning trading. The stock is up 11% YTD.
