Entergy Expects Q3 Operations Earnings to Beat Estimates (ETR)Oct 15, 2013Entergy Corporation (ETR) announced on Tuesday that it now expects to see its third quarter earnings rise above estimates. The company reported that it expects to see third quarter earnings of $1.33 per share and operations earnings of $2.40 per share. Last year, ETR reported earnings of $1.89 per share and operational earnings of $1.95 per share. This estimate would come in significantly above analysts' estimate of $1.99 per share. Entergy also noted that it now expects earnings for FY2013 to be in the middle of its previously announced range of $4.60-$5.40 per share. Analysts expect to see earnings of $4.94 per share. Entergy shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading Tuesday. The stock has been mostly flat YTD.
Entergy to Close Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (ETR)Aug 27, 2013Energy company Entergy Corporation (ETR) announced on Tuesday that it will close its Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station in Vernon, VT. The station will terminate its power production after its current fuel cycle is completed. The closure of the station is expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2014. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will oversee this process. ETR has made the decision to close this station due to financial factors related to the changing market of natural gas. The company plans to see an after-tax impairment charge of $181 million in the third quarter of 2013. ETR also expects to see charges between $55 million and $60 million next year. These charges will be considered special items and will not be included in the company's operational results. Entergy shares were down 31 cents, or 0.49%, during Tuesday morning trading. Entergy Q2 Profit Falls Due to Higher Expenses; Operating EPS Misses Views, But Revenues Beat (ETR)Jul 30, 2013Electric utility company Entergy Corporation (ETR) reported early on Tuesday that its second quarter profits declined 55% year-over-year, as an increase in expenses offset a 9% growth in revenue. Though the company's earnings missed analysts' expectations, revenues did top estimates. The New Orleans, Louisiana-based company posted a second quarter net income of $163.7 million, or 92 cents per share, down from $365.0 million, or $2.06 per share, in the same period a year ago. Entergy's operating earnings came in at $179.7 million, or $1.01 per share, in the second quarter, versus last year's operating earnings of $374.6 million, or $2.11 per share. According to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, the company was expected to earn $1.16 per share in the quarter. The company's second quarter operating revenues advanced to $2.74 billion from $2.52 billion last year. Analysts were expecting the company to see $2.62 billion in revenues. The company noted that the decline in earnings for the quarter was due to a significantly higher income tax expense as well as increases in other expenses. Looking ahead, Entergy reiterated its 2013 operating earnings guidance. The company expects to earn between $4.60 and $5.40 per share, while analysts expect the company to report earnings of $4.94 per share in 2013. Entergy shares were inactive during pre-market trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 10.64% year-to-date. Entergy Upgraded at Deutsche Bank (ETR)Jun 10, 2013On Monday Deutsche Bank reported that it has upgraded electric company, Entergy Corporation (ETR) . The firm has raised its rating on ETR from a "Hold" to a "Buy," and has increased its price target from $66 to $74. This price target suggests a 8% upside from the stock's current price of $68.19. Analyst Jonathan Arnold commented, "we are upgrading our rating to Buy from Hold as we reflect some of the value we see from the proposed ITC Holdings transaction in our price target and raise our standalone ETR estimates to reflect higher New York capacity prices and estimated Human Capital Management (HCM) initiative cost reductions." Entergy shares were mostly flat during premarket trading Monday. The stock is up 7% YTD.
