Wells Fargo Initiates Coverage on DTE Energy (DTE)Sep 25, 2013On Wednesday, Wells Fargo announced that it has initiated coverage on DTE Energy Co (DTE) . Wells Fargo has started coverage on DTE with a "Market Perform" rating and a valuation range of $70-$71. This range suggests up to a 5% increase from the stock's current price of $67.18. Analyst Neil Kalton commented: "Positive features include (1) stronger than peer group average EPS and DPS growth prospects, (2) a constructive regulatory environment and (3) a diverse portfolio of utility and non- utility growth projects." "Our neutral rating reflects valuation considerations as shares trade at 0-3% P/E multiple premiums to peers on our 13-15E EPS of $4.10, $4.30 & $4.65." DTE Energy shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading Wednesday. The stock is up 12% YTD.
DTE Energy Earnings Fall, Missing Estimates (DTE)Jul 26, 2013On Friday, energy company DTE Energy Co (DTE) released its second quarter financial results, which declined from the second quarter of 2012 and missed analysts' estimates. The Detroit, MI-based company posted second quarter net income of $105 million, or 60 cents per share, down from $146 million, or 86 cents per share a year ago. Excluding special items, earnings were $109 million, or 62 cents per share, compared to $147 million, or 87 cents per share a year ago. On average, analysts expected to see earnings of 77 cents per share. Total revenue for the quarter was $2.23 billion, up from $2.01 billion a year ago. Analysts expected to see revenue of $1.98 billion. Looking ahead, the company has confirmed its FY2013 outlook of earnings between $3.90 and $4.20 per share. Analysts are expecting to see earnings of $4.07 per share. DTE Energy shares were mostly flat during Friday morning trading. The stock is up 15% YTD. DTE Energy Earnings, Guidance Fall Short of Estimates (DTE)Feb 24, 2009DTE Energy Company (DTE) reported earnings late Monday that fell short of Wall Street expectations. The company, which provides electricity and natural gas to customers in Michigan, said that fourth quarter operating earnings dropped to $142 million, or 88 cents per share, compared with $163 million, or $1.01 per share in the year-ago period. Revenue was nearly flat at $2.17 billion. On average, Wall Street analysts expected earnings of 98 cents a share, on revenue of $2.04 billion. For the full-year 2008, DTE said it earned $546 million, or $3.36 per share, down nearly 43% from $971 million, or $5.70 per share, in the previous year. For fiscal 2009, the company said it expects operating earnings of $2.75 to $3.05 per share, lower than the consensus earnings estimate of $3.16 per share. The Bottom Line We had removed shares of DTE from our "Recommended" list on Aug.1, when the stock traded at $40.98. The company has a 7.39% dividend yield, based on last night's closing stock price of $28.70. The stock has technical support at the $22 price level. If the shares can stabilize, we see overhead resistance at the $35-36 price points. We would remain on the sidelines for now.
