Moody's Upgrades CenterPoint Energy (CNP)Aug 19, 2013Moody's Investors Service announced today that it has upgraded CenterPoint Energy's (CNP) credit rating from Baa3 to Baa1. The ratings firm also raised the rating on a CenterPoint subsidiary in Houston. Moody's noted that the primary reasons for the electricity and gas distributor's upgrade were the company's relatively low risks and relatively stable position. During the first half of 2013, CenterPoint reported earning $47 million on revenue of $4.3 billion. The upgrade comes after CenterPoint Energy reported a loss of $100 million in the second quarter. The company did, however, manage to beat EPS and revenue estimates. CenterPoint Energy shares shed 1.09% during Monday's session. Year-to-date, the stock is up 18.14%. CenterPoint Energy Turns a Loss in Q2; Adjusted EPS and Revenues Top Estimates (CNP)Aug 1, 2013Before the opening bell on Thursday, electric and natural gas utility company CenterPoint Energy, Inc. (CNP) reported that it turned a loss in the second quarter, as it was hit by a number of charges related to the formation of a partnership. On an adjusted basis, the company posted earnings and revenues that topped Wall Street estimates. The Houston, Texas-based company posted a second quarter loss of $100 million, or 23 cents per share. In the same period in 2012, the company posted a net income of $126 million, or 29 cents per share. CenterPoint noted that the loss in the quarter was due to a $225 million, non-cash deferred charge and $10 million in expenses related to the formation of the midstream partnership with OGE Energy (OGE) and ArcLight Capital Partners. Excluding these items, CenterPoint's second quarter net income would have been $131 million, or 30 cents per share. According to analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, the company was expected to earn 26 cents per share in the quarter. The company's quarterly revenues advanced to $1.894 billion from $1.525 billion last year. Analysts were expecting CenterPoint to see $1.60 billion in revenues in the quarter. Looking ahead, the company reaffirmed its full year 2013 outlook, with earnings expected to be between $1.17 and $1.25 per share. This forecast excludes the charges and expenses mentioned above. Wall Street analysts expect the company to earn $1.23 per share in 2013. CenterPoint Energy shares were up 28 cents, or 1.13%, during pre-market trading on Thursday. The stock is up 28.94% year-to-date.
