  • CMS Energy Q2 Profit Falls Despite Higher Revenues (CMS)

    Energy company CMS Energy Corporation (CMS) reported early Thursday that its net income dipped 20% in the second quarter, while revenues climbed 6%. Earnings per share missed Wall Street estimates by 5 cents, while revenues beat expectations. The Jackson, Michigan-based company posted a second quarter net income of $80 million, or 29 cents per share, down from the $100 million, or 37 cents per share, earned in the same period a year ago. On average, analysts were expecting the company to earn 34 cents per share in the quarter. CMS Energy's second quarter revenues came in at $1.41 billion, up from the $1.33 billion in revenues posted in the second quarter of 2012. Analysts were expecting the company to see $1.37 billion in revenues for the quarter. The company's second quarter expenses rose to $1.17 billion from $1.07 billion last year. Looking ahead, the company reaffirmed its full year earnings outlook; it expects adjusted earnings to come in between $1.63 and $1.66 per share. This would be consistent with the company's long-term plan to see 5% to 7% annual earnings per share growth. Analysts expect the company to earn $1.65 per share in 2013. CMS Energy shares were inactive during pre-market trading on Thursday. The stock is up 14.77% year-to-date.
