  • Teradyne Boosts Q3 Guidance, Shares Rise (TER)

    Chip maker Teradyne, Inc. (TER) on Thursday boosted its third quarter guidance, citing better industry conditions. The North Reading, Massachusetts-based company said it now expects a third quarter profit of 10 to 13 cents per share, excluding items, up from a prior outlook for a loss of 2 cents to a profit of 2 cents per share. It also raised its revenue forecast for the quarter to $250 million to $260 million, compared with a previous range of $190 million to $205 million. On average, Wall Street analysts expect a 1 cent per-share profit, on $201.5 million in revenue. Teradyne, which is slated to report its third quarter earnings in late October, also announced it would end temporary salary reductions implemented in 2008 and 2009 in the fourth quarter. Terdyne shares rose 41 cents, or +4.4%, in morning trading Thursday. The Bottom Line Shares of TER are trading near its 52-week highs of $10 a share. The stock has technical support in the $7-$8 price area. If the shares can build further momentum, we see overhead resistance around the $12 price levels.
