  • Alaska Air Earnings Decline; Beats EPS Estimates; Revenue Misses (ALK)

    Airline, Alaska Air Group, Inc. (ALK) reported a dip in its second quarter earnings on Thursday, but beat analysts' estimates. The Seattle-based company posted second quarter earnings of $105 million, or $1.47 per share, down from $111 million, or $1.53 per share, in the second quarter of 2012. On average, analysts expected to see $1.51 per share in earnings. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.26 billion, missing analysts estimate of $1.27 billion. ALK's CEO Brad Tilden commented, "these results represent our 17th consecutive quarter of profitability and the second-best June quarter in our history. I want to thank our employees at Alaska and Horizon who are continuing to work hard to keep us safe and reliable, provide a great experience for our customers, and produce results that make Alaska a great place to invest." "Although our quarterly results were down slightly, our financial performance continues to be very strong. This is why we were very pleased to recently announce the initiation of a quarterly dividend which, combined with our share repurchases, will be a key component of our capital deployment program," added Tilden.   • Alaska Air Group Initiates Quarterly Dividend (ALK)

    On Thursday, airline operator Alaska Air Group, Inc. (ALK) announced that its board has approved its first-ever quarterly dividend. The company has declared a dividend of 20 cents per share, or 80 cents annualized. The dividend will be paid on August 22 to shareholders of record on August 6. The stock will go ex-dividend on August 2. Alaska Air Group President and CEO Brad Tilden said, "we're pleased to introduce a dividend as a supplement to our ongoing multiyear stock repurchase program. The combination underscores the board's commitment to build long-term shareholder value." "Alaska's strong financial results over the past several years have allowed us to pay meaningful bonuses to our employees, profitably reinvest in our business and grow our network while significantly reducing debt, keeping our pensions well funded and returning capital to our owners. We believe these financial results are sustainable and a dividend now makes sense as part of our balanced capital allocation strategy," added Tilden.
