FreightCar America Announces New CFO (RAIL)Jul 22, 2013FreightCar America (RAIL) announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Charles (Chip) F. Avery, Jr as Vice President Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. Avery's new role as CFO will become effective August 1, 2013. Current CFO Joseph E. McNeely will now become the company's President and Chief Operating Officer. Avery has over 25 years of experience in finance and accounting, and has spent the majority of his career consulting global manufacturing companies. Prior to his appointment at FreightCar, Avery served as Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Information Officer at Federal Signal Corporation. FreightCar America shares traded 1.08% lower during Monday's session. Year-to-date, the stock is down 29.11%. FreightCar America Misses its Train (RAIL)Aug 4, 2008FreightCar America (RAIL) is getting clobbered today after missing Wall Street earnings expectations. Sales fell more than 27 percent in the quarter to $141.3 million.The railcar company is getting squeezed on sharp material cost increases on some of its fixed price contracts. The big negative is for the company is a reduction in orders for new railcars, which totaled 1,436 units in the last quarter. Previously, the company had received orders of 2,396 units in the first quarter of 2008, and 2,262 units in the second quarter of 2007. Until FreightCar America can better execute its business model, we would urge investors to avoid these shares. The company has a small dividend yield of .66% (based on Friday's closing stock price of $36.13). Take a look at other names in the Railroad Sector for better returns.
