  • First Community and Savannah River to Merge (FCCO)

    On Wednesday, financial services companies First Community Corporation (FCCO) and Savannah River Financial Corp have announced a plan to merge. First Community has entered into an agreement to acquire Savannah River for $33.6 million, or $11 per share. The transaction will be paid for with 60% cash and the remaining in FCCO stock. The merger has been approved by the boards of both companies. The new company will have $775 million in assets, $635 million in deposits and $450 million in loans. Following the completion of the deal, the company will have a total of 13 offices. First Community President and CEO Michael C. "Mike" Crapps said, "this is a comfortable extension of our company into a contiguous county, and beyond into Augusta. The Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and the midlands of South Carolina have many economic similarities, and both are experiencing nice momentum in business growth." "More importantly, we are excited to partner with the Savannah River Banking Company team. The Board of Directors, CEO Randy Potter, President Jeff Spears, and the entire team have created a successful banking organization, with a commitment to quality that permeates all aspects of their business. This includes the talent of the staff, their approach to serving their clients, and is evident in the quality of their balance sheet." First Community shares were down 36 cents, or 3.47%, during Wednesday morning trading. The stock has been mostly flat YTD.
