  • Waddell & Reed Downgraded at CBR Capital Markets (WDR)

Investment manager Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. (WDR) saw its rating and price target cut on Wednesday by analysts at FBR Capital Markets. The firm lowered its rating on WDR to "Market Peform" from "Outperform," and cut its price target on the stock to $32 from $42. WDR shares had closed at $28 on Tuesday. The FBR analyst commented, "(Downgrading) based on the continued underperformance and, perhaps more importantly, the negative absolute performance of the company's flagship Asset Strategy fund. Considering the fact that Asset Strategy accounts for the majority of the company's fund sales, the risk and rising possibility of client outflows from that product are enough to put us on the sidelines with regard to WDR shares." Waddell & Reed shares were mostly flat in premarket trading Wednesday. The Bottom Line We have avoided shares of WDR since our early June 2008 coverage began, when the stock was trading at $35.57. The company has a dividend yield of 2.71%, based on last night's closing stock price of $28.00. The stock has technical support in the $24-$26 price area. If the shares can firm up, we see overhead resistance around the $32 price level. We would remain on the sidelines for now. Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. (WDR) is not recommended at this time, holding a Dividend.com DARS™ Rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars.
