    Automotive systems maker BorgWarner Inc. (BWA) was upgraded Monday by analysts at Wells Fargo. Wells boosted its rating on the stock to "Outperform," noting the stock's underperformance since 7/24, which provides an "attractive entry point" for the shares. BorgWarner shares rose 57 cents, or +2%, in morning trading Monday. The Bottom Line Shares of BWA are off their 52-week highs of $41 a share. The stock has technical support in the $25 price area. If the shares can continue their recent rebound, we see overhead resistance around the $34-$35 price levels.   • BorgWarner Downgraded by Goldman Sachs (BWA)

    Automotive components maker BorgWarner Inc. (BWA) was downgraded Thursday morning by analysts at Goldman Sachs. The analysts downgraded BWA shares to "Neutral" from a previous "Buy" rating. Goldman said that BWA shares seem to be near full valuation, and have trailed those of its competitors. The investment analyst also decreased its price target on the shares to $30 from $33. BorgWarner shares, which closed at $31.83 Wednesday, fell 63 cents, or -2%, in afternoon trading Thursday. The Bottom Line Shares of BWA are off 52-week highs of $48 a share. The stock has technical support in the $25-27 price area. If the shares can shake off this morning's downgrade, we see overhead resistance around the $35 price area.   • BorgWarner to Offer $275 Million in Convertible Notes (BWA)

    Automotive systems and drive-train components maker BorgWarner Inc. (BWA) said Monday that it will offer $275 million in senior convertible notes due 2012 in an effort to increase its liquidity. The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based company said that the notes will pay interest semiannually at a fixed rate, and can be converted into cash and stock. BorgWarner also said that underwriters of the notes will receive the option to purchase up to an additional $41.3 million in notes within the first 13 days of the original offer. BorgWarner has struggled amid the recent economic turndown, as car makers continue to cut production in response to tight consumer spending. Car production cuts have greatly affected the company's income. BorgWarner shares fell 59 cents, or -2.4%, in morning trading Monday. The Bottom Line Shares of BWA are way off of all-time highs of $53 set in October of 2007. The stock has technical support in the $15-17 price area. If the shares can continue to run up, (up 50% in last 4 week), we see initial overhead resistance around the $25-26 levels and then the $32-34 mark.
