Compass Minerals Downgraded at Oppenheimer (CMP)Jul 13, 2009Analysts at Oppenheimer on Monday downgraded salt and minerals producer Compass Minerals International, Inc. (CMP) . Compass was downgraded to "Perform" from a previous "Outperform" rating. Oppenheimer also withdrew its $61 price target on the shares, which closed Friday at $51.01. Oppenheimer said that Potash prices could topple soon, which could directly impact Compass. Compass shares fell $2.55, or -5%, in afternoon trading Monday. The Bottom Line We had removed shares of CMP from our "Recommended list" last July 24, when the stock was trading at $66.92. The company has a 2.78% dividend yield, based on Friday's closing stock price of $51.01. The stock has technical support in the $43-47 price area. If the shares can firm up, we see overhead resistance around the $58-60 price levels. We would remain on the sidelines for now. Compass Minerals International, Inc.
