  • Devon Energy Corp Beats Q4 EPS Views; Misses on Revenue (DVN)

    Before the opening bell on Wednesday morning, Devon Energy (DVN) reported its fourth quarter earnings, posting record oil production for the quarter. DVN's Earnings in Brief
    • Devon Energy reported fourth quarter total operating revenues of $2.62 billion, up slightly from last year's Q4 figure of $2.58 billion.
    • Net earnings for the quarter came in at $207 million, or 51 cents per share, up significantly from last year's Q4 loss of $357 million, or -89 cents per share.
    • On an adjusted basis, DVN's EPS came in at $1.10, which is a 49% increase from last year's Q4 figure.
    • Devon Energy was able to beat analysts' expectations of $1.09 EPS, but came short of revenue expectations of $2.69 billion.
    CEO Commentary Devon's president and CEO, John Richels, had the following comments: “2013 was a year of strong execution and exciting change for Devon. Our drilling programs not only drove impressive oil production growth, but also expanded margins and improved operating cash flow. Additionally, we high-graded our portfolio through an accretive Eagle Ford Shale acquisition, an innovative midstream combination, and initiated an asset divestiture program. These actions provide a platform for Devon to achieve attractive high-margin growth in 2014 and for many years to come.” DEV's Dividend Devon Energy declared its last dividend of 22 cents in December and it is payable on March 31. The company most recently raised its dividend  for last year's June dividend. It should also be noted that the company did not pay a dividend in the fall. Stock Performance DVN stock was inactive in pre-market trading. YTD, the company's stock is up 2.86%.

  • Devon Energy Q2 Earnings Rise, Beating Estimates (DVN)

    Devon Energy Corp (DVN) released its second quarter financial results on Wednesday, which came in above analysts' estimates. The company reported that the rise in earnings was primarily a result of increased production and higher oil and natural gas prices. The Oklahoma City, OK-based company reported second quarter earnings of $683 million, or $1.68 per share, up 43% from $477 million, or $1.18 per share, a year ago. Excluding special items, earnings were $491 million, or $1.21 per share. On average, analysts expected to see earnings of 95 cents per share. Total revenue for the quarter was $3.09 billion, up from $2.56 billion last year. Analysts estimated revenue of $2.65 billion. "The second quarter was an outstanding one for Devon as we continued to successfully grow high-margin oil production," President and Chief Executive John Richels noted. "We remain on track to deliver total companywide oil production growth in the high teens for 2013, led by light-oil growth of nearly 40% in the U.S." Devon Energy shares were up $1.60, or 2.87%, during pre-market trading Wednesday.   • Devon Energy Announces Plan to Form MLP (DVN)

    Energy company, Devon Energy Corp (DVN) reported on Thursday that its board has authorized a plan to form a publicly traded master limited partnership (MLP). The MLP will own a small interest in DVN's U.S. midstream business which will include natural gas gathering and processing assets in Texas, Oklahoma and Wyoming. DVN expects to register a statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the third quarter of 2013. Devon will own the general partner of the MLP. Devon Energy shares were up 27 cents, or 0.48% during Thursday morning trading. The stock is up 10% YTD.
