  • Gun Ruling Favors Dividend Play (OLN)

Olin Corp (OLN) is a name for dividend investors to take a look at after the Supreme Court's ruling today on handguns. In essence, the courts ruled that citizens do, in fact, have a constitutional right (under the Second Ammendment) to keep guns for self defense. This is the biggest gun case the court has decided upon in decades and is a slam-dunk victory for gun-rights advocates. This ruling is great news for Olin Corp's Winchester division, which produces and distributes sporting ammunitions, reloading components, small caliber military ammunition and components, and industrial cartridges. Olin Corp has been a big winner already this year, with their stock price up nearly 35%, and at its current price, OLN's dividend yield is 3%. Olin Corp's recent first quarter profit jumped 61 percent, which factored in the recent purchase of rival Pioneer Cos. and pricing improvements. All of these market factors compel us to maintain our "Recommended" rating for this stock. But remember, always be sure to use a safety lock on your investments, and more importantly, your guns! Olin Corp (OLN) currently holds a Dividend.com rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars.
