The markets pulled off the earlier highs of the day as investors made some moves in the holiday trading session, but we did manage to rally late in the day to make it 6 winning sessions in a row on the Dow.

Volume was the lowest it has been this week, finishing at 4.29 Billion shares traded on the NYSE and 1.82 Billion shares traded on thr NASDAQ. There were some dividend plays moving on earnings results today. Unfortunately the majority were lower, led by Flowers Foods (FLO), Weight Watchers (WTW) and Macy’s (M). United Parcel Service (UPS) did not report earnings, but did have some bullish things to say about what it is seeing so far. That news helped lift shares of UPS higher.

Wall Street commentary also moved stocks higher, as upgrades pushed stocks like T. Rowe Price (TROW), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and FPL Group (FPL) higher. On the flipside, cautious commentary weighed down stocks like Cytec Industries (CYT), and Allegheny Technology (AYE).

Other dividend stocks on the move today included Coach (COH), Goldman Sachs (GS), and Nucor (NUE) to the plus side, while Occidental Petroleum (OXY), AXA (AXA) and J.C. Penney (JCP) lagged behind.

We continue to evaluate our list of Dividend recommendations as well as potential new plays that may be joining the list next. We’ll be sure to keep subscribers updated on any changes we make.
